We use Stripe's real-time fraud protection software, Radar. Stripe Radar is a powerful machine learning fraud prevention tool designed to help businesses detect and prevent fraudulent transactions. It uses advanced algorithms to analyze transaction patterns, flag suspicious activity, and adapt to emerging fraud trends. Radar provides real-time insights to protect our business while minimizing false positives
Manual Reviews
We provide an extra layer of fraud protection by manually inspecting certain payments. Radar will flag payments with an elevated risk of fraud, placing them in a Reviews queue according to Stripe’s fraud protection system.
We review flagged orders to determine if they are "high-risk" and decide whether the order should be reversed (refunded). The criteria considered include:
- Billing information entered at checkout
- Where the order was placed
- Distance between billing and IP address
- Order velocity
- IP address
- Previous order history
- Linked accounts
- Previous chargeback disputes
- Fraud history from Stripe Network
When a payment is reversed (refunded) due to fraud, the customer receives an automated email notification. Fraud reversals are reflected in the Order Details Event report under the ticket status "Refunded Fraud."
Maintaining a Block List
When we suspect a high likelihood of fraud from a customer, we sometimes add the customer to a block list. This blocks the same credit card and email address from making a new payment.
